The Walloon Road Safety Agency Warns of Heightened Motorcycle Accident Risks During Warmer Months
Recent data shows May, June, and September are particularly dangerous for motorcyclists, with accidents spiking during sunny weekends and in densely populated or tourist areas

The Walloon Road Safety Agency has released new statistics highlighting a significant increase in motorcycle accidents from May to September each year. According to the agency, nearly two-thirds of such incidents occur during these months. The seasonal variation, primarily driven by changing weather and increased travel, puts riders at greater risk, especially as more people take to the roads when the weather improves.
The data underscores that weekends are especially hazardous, accounting for forty percent of all motorcycle accidents. This spike is attributed to the greater number of trips taken during leisure time and riskier behavior, including speeding and longer journeys. The agency further points out a surprising trend: accidents that occur on dry roads tend to have more severe consequences than those that happen on wet surfaces, possibly due to higher travel speeds and a false sense of security.
Specific regions such as Liège and Hainaut, along with popular tourist areas, see the greatest number of motorcycle accidents, particularly during sunny weather. The Walloon Road Safety Agency is calling on riders to remain extra vigilant this weekend, urging strict compliance with all traffic regulations and emphasizing the importance of wearing appropriate protective gear. As travel increases along with good weather, the agency stresses that everyone on the road must prioritize safety.
