Thousands File Complaints to Dutch Discrimination Hotline After Wilders’ Social Media Post
Geert Wilders’ recent social media post has sparked over two thousand reports, with critics calling it polarizing and discriminatory

A Dutch discrimination hotline has received more than two thousand complaints in recent days following a controversial social media post by PVV party leader Geert Wilders. The post featured an image with a young blonde woman on one side, a veiled elderly woman on the other, alongside references to political parties. Many in the Netherlands say the image and its online context have caused widespread discomfort and concern.
Officials from the hotline report that the significant number of complaints reflects strong public unease. Critics have described Wilders’ post as polarizing, stigmatizing, and discriminatory—comments also highlighted that it appeared to target Muslims. Some even compared the imagery to the antisemitic propaganda used during the Nazi era, underscoring the deep offense felt by some members of the community.
At this point, the discrimination hotline has not determined what actions, if any, it will take regarding the incident. The possibility of filing a criminal report is under consideration. The level of response to this single post has not been seen since 2020, aside from a notable incident during the pandemic involving a song. The case once again shines a spotlight on ongoing debates over free speech, social cohesion, and the responsibilities of public figures in Dutch society.
