Strong winds and rainfall expected in Belgium over the weekend

The Royal Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow wind warning nationwide, with heavy rain and gusts forecast from Saturday morning through Sunday

Belgium is set to experience unsettled weather this weekend as the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) has issued a yellow wind warning for all provinces, effective from 8:00 a.m. Saturday until 8:00 a.m. Sunday. Meteorologists predict active rainfall combined with strong winds ranging from 70 to 90 km/h starting Saturday, with the possibility of even stronger gusts—especially along coastal areas, where the warning level could be raised to orange in the afternoon or evening.

Rainfall is expected to slightly decrease during late Friday night as winds continue to intensify, reaching speeds of 65 to 70 km/h overnight. By early Saturday morning, a new band of precipitation moving in from the west will sweep across the country, with total rainfall amounts estimated at 15 to 25 liters per square meter. After midday on Saturday, the skies are expected to clear in some regions, though local showers may still occur between the coast and the Campine area, and temperatures will hover between 53°F and 61°F (12°C and 16°C).

Winds are forecast to gradually subside on Saturday evening. Sunday will bring relatively calmer weather, though occasional passing clouds and isolated showers may persist, mainly in coastal and Ardennes regions. Looking ahead to next week, forecasters expect a steadier weather pattern under high pressure, but autumn characteristics—such as fog and overcast skies—are likely to remain prevalent in many areas.
