Number of Dollar Millionaires Worldwide Reaches Record High

A new report shows 23.4 million people now hold over one million dollars in financial assets, with global wealth led by rapid growth in the United States.

A recently published Capgemini World Wealth Report reveals that the global number of individuals with financial assets worth over one million dollars has reached a record-breaking 23.4 million. The surge in wealthy individuals is primarily driven by gains in the United States, which continues to top the list with over seven million dollar millionaires. Japan follows as a distant second, home to almost four million people holding millionaire status.

According to the report, total global wealth soared past ninety trillion US dollars by the end of 2023. Capgemini’s analysis covered seventy-one countries, accounting for ninety-eight percent of the world’s gross domestic product. The report emphasized that the analysis focused on all financial assets, excluding primary residences, providing a comprehensive view of wealth accumulation and its current distribution.

The data highlights a notable acceleration, with the population of millionaires growing 2.6 percent compared to last year. These findings indicate not only a rebound from previous economic challenges but also an ongoing shift in global wealth concentration, particularly in the world’s largest and most dynamic economies.
