Joint Operation Targets Drug Use on Public Transport in Brussels

Brussels police, transit authorities, and railway police conducted a large-scale anti-drug operation to curb illegal activity across public transportation networks.

On Tuesday, September 30, a coordinated anti-drug operation was carried out on public transportation in Brussels by the Brussels-West Police Zone, the Brussels Public Transport Company (STIB), and the Railway Police. The effort aimed to crack down on drug-related offenses and enhance passenger safety on buses, trams, and trains across the city.

During the sweep, authorities filed 19 reports for drug use and detained two individuals for drunkenness. In addition, two people were arrested for carrying illegal weapons. The operation also led to the seizure of 16 kilograms of cannabis resin and 16,100 euros in cash, while a total of 70 separate infractions were documented on public transportation lines.

Officials highlighted the importance of collaboration, especially noting the involvement of a Luxembourg dog handler and various police services, which contributed to the overall success of the operation. This joint effort is seen as a strong example of effective coordination between police and transit agencies in tackling crime and ensuring public safety.
