European Police Launch Large-Scale Speed Control Operation on Roads
Authorities across Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France, and Bulgaria are intensifying police checks to curb speed-related traffic accidents as part of a major Roadpol campaign.
A sweeping traffic control operation has begun across Europe, with police in countries including Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France, and Bulgaria ramping up speed checks on key routes. The initiative, organized by Roadpol—a network coordinating European traffic police—aims to reduce accidents caused by excessive speeding. From August 4 to 10, tens of thousands of officers will be on duty as 31 European nations, along with observer the United Arab Emirates, participate in the campaign.
Similar traffic checks were conducted in April and June, focusing not only on speed violations but also on detecting drug use among drivers. Roadpol states its goal is to significantly bring down the number of road deaths and injuries in Europe, which currently sees nearly 30,000 fatalities and tens of thousands of injuries each year. The organization emphasizes that coordinated enforcement can make a real impact in saving lives on the continent’s roads.
This large-scale enforcement effort is especially timely, as many Europeans take to the roads for summer vacations, increasing traffic volumes and risks. Authorities are urging drivers across the region to remain attentive and strictly adhere to speed limits and other traffic regulations. Experts note that stepped-up enforcement during this busy travel season could be crucial in preventing serious accidents.
