More Than 1,000 Food Products to See Price Cuts in Greece Starting October 2025

Greek consumers will benefit from discounts on a wide range of basic food items as part of a government-led initiative involving supermarkets and the food industry.

Starting October 10, 2025, shoppers in Greece will find discounts on more than 1,000 essential food products, following an agreement between the Ministry of Development, supermarket chains, and representatives from the food sector. The decision is aimed at helping households cope with ongoing economic challenges and ensuring greater affordability in daily shopping.

The planned price cuts will run at least through the end of 2025, with the possibility of extending into March 2026 if needed. The Ministry has called on supermarket chains to cooperate by limiting their profit margins, allowing for deeper and broader discounts across additional products. Suppliers are expected to provide the final list of discounted items to the ministry by Sunday, ensuring timely rollout and clear communication.

Discount rates are expected to average between 5% and 10%, though some products will see even greater reductions. To make these price changes easily visible, stores will use special tags and posters on applicable items, with each supermarket allowed to determine the color of their indicators. Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos framed the effort as an act of social responsibility and solidarity, emphasizing its role in supporting families facing financial hardship.
