Belgium refers war crimes file on two Israeli soldiers to ICC

The Belgian Federal Prosecutor's Office has submitted a case involving two Israeli soldiers accused of war crimes in Gaza to the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

The Belgian Federal Prosecutor’s Office announced that it has referred a case concerning two Israeli soldiers, accused of committing war crimes in Gaza, to the International Criminal Court (ICC). The move follows complaints filed by the Brussels-based Hind Recep Foundation, which reported the soldiers’ presence at the Tomorrowland Festival in Boom, Belgium. These complaints were submitted to authorities on July 18 and 19, and after reviewing the allegations, prosecutors decided to transfer the file in line with Belgium’s international obligations.

On July 21, the Hind Recep Foundation stated that Belgian federal police had detained and questioned the two Israeli soldiers in response to claims of war crimes in Gaza. While Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the detention of its citizens, it did not elaborate on the reasons behind the arrest. The decision to send the case to the ICC marks a significant step in ensuring the matter is evaluated within the framework of international justice.

This latest action by the Belgian Federal Prosecutor aims to ensure that justice is effectively served and that international responsibilities regarding the prosecution of alleged war crimes are fulfilled. The submission of this case marks a new phase in the international legal process concerning alleged war crimes committed during the conflict in Gaza.
