German Police Warn Public About Scam Emails Sent in Official Name

Federal Police urge citizens not to respond to or pay demands included in fake emails using official logos and allegations

German Federal Police issued a strong warning recently about scam emails being sent in their name. The fraudulent messages, which imitate the visual style and logos of law enforcement, falsely accuse recipients of having committed a crime and demand either a quick response or payment. Authorities emphasized that the police never send such requests by email and that people should never reply or transfer money if they receive these messages.

Officials clarified that authentic correspondence from the police would not involve threats or solicit private information or payments via email. They stressed that anyone who receives a suspicious message should avoid sharing any personal or financial information. In the event of suspected fraud, residents are encouraged to visit their local police station to file a formal report.

The police highlighted that these fake emails have recently become more technically sophisticated and are specifically designed to intimidate recipients. The Federal Police advised everyone to stay vigilant, not to be pressured by threats, and to never disclose identity or bank information to unknown contacts.
